Peter Rabbit Comes to Town

Book Blogger Hop

I have joined The Hop!

This weekly event is hosted by Crazy-for-Books, and is all about encouraging book bloggers to discover new blogs, find new friends, and indulge in a Friday-Monday book blog feast of epic proportions. I sense many hours of reading ahead, 8D This may, of course, be why the first review for Audible Candy will never be posted, and why this blog will slowly but surely devolve into a chronicle of all the memes I have filled out.

... I jest, of course. Moving on.

So the question of today's Hop is, "Who is your favorite new-to-you author so far this year?"

His name is Jim Bihyeh, and currently, the three short stories of his series, Coyote Tales, can only be found (by me, at least) on Psuedopod, the horror podcast. Bihyeh's stories are based in Native American folklore. Their settings are contemporary, each tale linked by the mysterious figure of Coyote (a man? A trickster? A creature not quite mortal? The mystery sends a shudder of awe down my spine), and are all beautifully, engrossingly written. The first story I listened to was entitled "The Dreaming Way". Psuedopod posts an excerpt from each story along with the recording, and character of Lynette - too big and too intelligent to blend in - caught my attention instantly. This is the kind of girl I've always wanted to read about, and I wanted - had - to know her story.

Jim Bihyeh tells it poignantly.

So now I'm waiting for either another Coyote Tale, or an entire book (which I would buy the instant it was published, even if I am a penniless college student). But in the meantime, I recommend Bihyeh's work wherever I go. I will warn you: all three stories contain profanity and some stomach-churning violence. But neither are gratuitous. And oh! what stories he tells!

  3. Thanks for the visit to my blog! To answer your question, choosing a song/book combination is usually a matter of hearing a song and thinking, "Oh, this fits such and such a book/character so well!" It doesn't happen every day, so when I have a moment of inspiration I tend to grab it quickly and get it down on paper so that I can use it for a future blog post.

Love your blog. Count me as a new follower!

  6. I am hopping by (and following your blog). I am new to audio books and have only "listened" to 3 so far. Your mention of the book "The Big Over easy" in your Top 10 has nudged my interest and I have added that to my TBR (tbl?)list.

    Have a great weekend.

Chrizette - Ooh, new convert! Welcome to the world of audiobooks (we have cookies! xD) Thanks for hopping by and following Audible Candy. TBL sounds like a fine acronym; we'll have to adopt it!
